The Jordan Area Food Shelf was formed in October 2009 as a result of an assessment of food needs through our school free backpack, free and reduced lunches, and the closure of food shelf in Jordan.
The Jordan Area Food Shelf objectives are for providing food and resources to individuals in need. The Jordan Area food shelf pledges to provide a safe environment, avoiding judgment, and help all individual whether children, adult, or elderly meet their hunger needs and stay healthy. Staff from parishes and community committees will strive to provide food and support to the clients using the food shelf.
Finally, the food shelf is committed to providing food and Christian-based services by understanding diverse populations and helping those in need.
We are a community of Christians who will serve those in need by working together to support a food shelf in the Jordan area.
Goals of the Food Shelf:
- Provide food to individuals and families in the Jordan service area.
- Educate clients on other services they may qualify for, e.g. Fare For All, Church Related resources and social service programs.
- Develop positive interactions between clients and volunteers.
- Follow a model of continuous improvement.
Volunteers are recruited from churches through word-of-mouth, advertisement in the local newspaper, or through invitation by another member. Food shelf volunteers are from that volunteer pool. If interested call 952-564-4718.
